TYKOO WOMBAT

On Friday afternoon, 22 February, I started on my long journey, in a Post-Pack, to Mammoth Mountain in California. It should take me about 7-10 days to get there.

Dear family,

I am writing to you from beautiful California in the United States. I am currently living in a small ski resort town called Mammoth Lakes. I have been on quite a few adventures with some Australians, New Zealanders and Americans.

I have worked in the Sports Shop helping to sell skis and snowboards. Everyone is very interested in meeting me. The Americans didn't realise Australia has so many unique animals, however many don't believe I am a wombat and think I am simply a guinea pig!

I have also worked outside on the slopes helping to operate the lifts that take people to the top of the runs so they can ski and board down. That was lots of fun. I got to ride the chair to the top and was given a lift down the slope by one of the lift operators from New Zealand. The lift operators took a couple of photos of me that are in the mail heading your way.

It is very warm here at the moment. It is spring time here so the snow is starting to melt but the mountains and the forests are still very beautiful. It is about 55 degrees fahrenheit at the moment, I think that is roughly in the low 20 degrees celsius. I am enjoying the sunshine, it reminds all of the Australians and New Zealanders of home.

I am missing you all but I am also having a wonderful time meeting new people every day. I will write again soon to update you on my latest travels.

Lots of love, Tykoo
