GUMNUT KOALA

On Friday, 1st March, I am flying Air New Zealand to the United States and then on to England where I will change planes to fly to Ireland.

5th March

"Hi everybody - I have arrived safely in Northern Ireland, Auntie Phyllis looked after me very well. She lives in a seaside resort up on the north coast of Northern Ireland in Co. Londonderry and it is really nice and when I get over my jet lag we are going to explore all around and I will tell you all about it.
I had an exciting time on the plane and was allowed to go up to the cockpit on the flight from Los Angeles to meet the Captain and I had my photograph taken with them and I will send this to you. We were flying over Canada at the time.
I flew first from Brisband to Auckland, then Auckland to Los Angeles, then Los Angeles to London and then from London to Belfast which is the capital city in N. Ireland.
It is quite cold here but Phyllis has put on lots of heat in the house so I am nice and warm. The temperature at night can be as low as 1 or 2 centigrade - that will make you all shiver!!
I will be in touch again very soon but I hope to go in a few weeks to visit in England and then we will make more plans after that.
Missing you all but having a really exciting time.
Love from Gumnut."

Hi Everybody,

Sorry to have been so long in writing to you again - a post card is on its way from Portstewart to let you see what it's like.

I had a good rest and then I went to Carrickfergus - another seaside town in County Antrim to visit some friends of Phyllis. Jim is a teacher at the Primary School there and after Easter I am going to visit them and maybe to see a very old castle in Carrickfergus.

I have been seeing around this lovely part of Northern Ireland with Phyllis and hope to go to visit the Giant's Causeway at Easter and to the Rope Bridge - I will get some photos taken and send them to you.

The weather is still quite cold at night - this morning the ground was white with a frost but the sun is out now. There are lots of daffodils in the gardens here.

Last week Phyllis and I walked the beach in Portstewart (about two miles long) or at least I got a piggy back for part of the walk!!

Ihope you all have a lovely Easter holiday.

Love from Gumnut.
